Does it only work for a PAL NES?

FamicomFreak

Maybe but then again you could probably change something in it to make it run ntsc.

My assumption would be that there's nothing within the device itself that discriminates between PAL and NTSC, but that the device only communicates with the lockout chip in the system and the lockout info in the cart. Now, since NTSC games are locked out of PAL systems and PAL games are locked out of NTSC systems, the device might discriminate between the different lockout versions.

That looks like a really cool adapter! :o Wouldn't mind owning one myself :P

oh and my latest find is Roger Rabbit for the Disk System, which is why I mentionned it in the famicom disk to cart topic earlier. :)

That's correct, JC.
The game slot communicates the entire cart except for the lockout chip to the system, while the piggyback slot only communicates the lockout chip part of the cartridge to the system. In a nutshell, it allows you to 'swap' the lockout chip from a cartridge with another one from another cartridge.

To play NTSC games on your PAL console, plug a NTSC game into the game slot and a PAL game into the piggyback slot.

But since it's so easy to leave a NES console region-free, I wouldn't bother doing all this. Just cut pin 4 and be happy :).

BTW JC, How's the quality of the ribbon cable on the HES Unidaptor? Is it sturdy enough like IDE cables? Hard to bend? etc.

JC

Well, I guess the Unidaptor's only necessary if you intend to protect the integrity of the NES by not cutting the pin. I don't have the device yet, so I can't mess with it to find out what it does, etc. I'll let you know more soon, 133MHz.

I've got my third shipment of games coming from Taiwan:

Gaiapolis
Tap-tap mat (CIB) -- only $10 from Taiwan! (costs $30 from Japan)
Rocman X -- x2 (one for sale)
Time Diver Avenger
Shin-chan -- that one by Future Media
Akumajou Dracula -- FDS port (I missed an auction for AKII FDS port :()
Mali and Lugi Fighting
Fatal Fury Special -- I think; either that or Sonic and Knuckles; Taiwan auctions can be confusing
Werewolf 2 -- did Altered Beast have an official sequel?
AV Beautiful Girl Fighting (for sale, unless it has differences from what i've got)
9 game lot -- a few originals (will sell pirates of licensed games)
Street Fighter II -- I hope it's the real thing and not one of the many hacks
Mario Pizza Pop!
7 in 1 -- with Somari and 6 Mario hacks (for sale, I think)

And then I'll be getting about 4 or 5 of the Chinese original RPGs.

Wow sweet finds. Is the rocman x the one by Sachen? I have a gameboy one that is called by that name and was wondering if it's the same one.
