Found this at the thrift store. What is it?

So I found this case at the thrift store and I can't find one anywhere on ebay or online. I think it might be a case for games but I'm not exactly sure. It is too small for the Famicom or the Disk System and I don't know what the partition inside is for. Any ideas? How much is it worth?

Looks like it might be a DS storage case but there isn't anything to compare the size of it. What it's worth is what someone is willing to pay for it :P It is cool though.

How large is it? I know the old Super Mario games were re-released on Game Boy Advance with a numbering system similar to that, although at least here SMW was subtitled "Super Mario Advance 2."

Here's some more pictures for size comparisons. Gameboy/handheld case is a good guess but I think it might be too big and too old. Still not sure though. I also included a photo with a sticker that's on top but I can't read kanji so I have no idea what it says. I think the sticker is just from the recycle shop though.

This is a really wild guess, but could it be a bento box? The way it's split into two areas makes me think it's not meant to hold games or a console and it's controllers.

P

Yeah I also think it's not game-related. The title just say Super Mario Bros 4: Super Mario World so it's most likely from around the time of the original release and not related to any re-releases. The sticker is probably from the recycle shop like you thought. It says something like "sold as is, special prize, no returns accepted." I think.

It's a game cartridge case.  I have several of these, but not his particular one.  It's using the Famicom design, but a Super Famicom title - so it may be a knockoff.  Sweet find though, I'd love to have that one to add to my SMB1 and SMB3 cases.

If it is for games then what is the partition for?

On my other cases - the partition never seems to quite make sense.  It's always a thin vacuum formed plastic inlay that never seems to properly fit games or really make sense the way it compartmentalises.
I tend to take them out (but keep them) and lay a sheet of something else in like bubble wrap or cloth sheet.  I wonder if you could fit a small console in there - perhaps the AV Famicom and two controllers?  Just a guess.

Does the partition feel like a sheet of plastic, or is it fully part of the case?  Mine also have a carrying handle on the top - Does yours look like it used to have one?

Still too big for the AV Famicom unless you take the partition out and yes there's a handle on top (see pictures below). What a mystery o_O. I can't seem to find it anywhere online either.

It could be a case for school supplies if it's too small for SFC carts.
I heard that back in the day a lot of otherwise unrelated items were decorated with Mario to increase sales.

It could also just be a regular small case for anything. It doesn't have to be game-related.  ;)

OK let me clarify.  It IS a game case of sorts - what's throwing us off is the partition.  Everything else is the exact same as my cases seen here on the left and right:

one of these also has a vacuum formed partition that doesn't make sense.  Given how cheap and easy vacuum forming is, I wouldn't be surprised if that came from somewhere else along the line.
Mine fit perfectly, but are also a confusing shape.

[UPDATE EDIT]
...and after writing all of this., I remembered mine aren't game cases - they're lunchboxes!!!

There's another in the series for SMB2J which is a darker orange, plus I've seen a black and green one for Kinnikuman Wrestling and Gegege no Kitaro.

They tend to sell for 20-30 bucks but cost a fair bit to ship of course.

Heh, so it was a lunchbox after all. That explains everything. :D
I thought it was the size of a cartridge for some reason.

manuel

The partition could have been added afterwards.

Don't get me wrong, these fit cartridges perfectly.
