I need to hang out in front of the local university more...  ;D

133MHz

Front? Maybe 'back' is the word you're looking for ::)

nurd

Or "basement of daycare center"

That's where they have the sales at the university here.

But they  DO throw a lot of stuff away.

You're right again. Stupid me.  :-X

I think I'll have guards throw me out when I try to linger in the back of their building.  :D Japanese schools are very strict when it comes to strangers.

I'd try to get you one, but shipping would be ridiculous  :-\

Yeah the transformer on those things is pretty heavy.
You could make some good cash by selling the Fresnel lenses by themselves. It's the lens inside that looks like if you cut an onion in half. Just open the projector up and take it out. It's made of plastic. They make EXCELLENT magnifying lenses for burning up stuff with the Sun BTW.

Would those be in a regular projector, like the kind to go on a ceiling?

I took one of those apart, and I think I still have most of the lenses.

manuel

I've looked on yahoo auctions and they seem to be reasonably priced there.
Maybe I'll get one in the near future. :)

I want to try this so bad, but VGA boxes are expensive.

I guess it's still cheaper that a projector.

133MHz

There's a VGA box for $30 on play asia. In the meanwhile I just use it with my computer.

I saw that one, but I was looking something that had some kind of RF in on it so I could hook my DirectTV up to it.

Your DirecTV box should have composite video outputs that you could hook up to a VGA box with no problems, and as a last resort you could always use a VCR to convert from RF to composite.

EDIT: 1200th post yay ;D!

FamicomFreak

Man I though about a VGA box again but I am low on funds again....I'm just going to buy an small tv I saw on craiglist.

A lot of stuff has happened since my last post here..

First, the projector is finished! With the help of my uncle I've built a wooden box to house the LCD panel & electronics together ;D.
The box goes over the projector and switches the power to it so everything turns on with a single switch :).

Inside the wooden box:

Second, got a VGA box! ;D
It's a ViewSonic NextVision N4 video processor with S-Video, Composite and RF inputs. It comes with a built-in TV tuner so I got the cable guy to install an extension so I can watch TV on it ;D

The pics are kinda outdated, now the VGA box and the DVD player are mounted under the projector, while the consoles are sitting next to the couch.

The projector has received quite a lot of (ab)use in the last time. ~8 hour gaming sessions, lots of parties, casual TV watching, etc. It's a blast to throw a party with it, put some concert DVDs for background ambiance, then play some video games (100 inch Wii anyone? ::)), watch a movie, etc. In the worst usage case the bulb lasted a month, but replacements are only $4 each :P.

And last but not least... a video!

133MHz makes a cameo appearance here, stay tuned! :P
