My wife said she'll buy a PSP in March, because the newest part of her favourite series will be on there.

Ok, I thought, and now I ask myself... no, I ask you guys for some recommendations.

As some of you may know I like RPGs (like Dragon Quest, with the good old turn-based fights), adventures (Zelda-ish) and platformers (Super Mario Bros-type).

Is there something of that kind on PSP?
I'm having my eyes on Final Fantasy 1 and 2, Suikoden and the likes. Anything good besides that?
Maybe a good 2D-platformer?
Does anybody have that Rockman game with the SD character design? Is it any good?

Any hints are appreciated.

The Castlevania game that has Dracula X and Symphony Of The Night has to be great.

Megaman: Powered Up or whatever its called is pretty good
but since your in japan its called ROCKMAN ROCKMAN great title huh?

Rockman rockman is ace.

My biggest reccomendation is to just open up the firmware and put every FDS, NES and Famicom game on there at the least.  The psp is built for emulation it does it so well.

Then there's all the other systems you can do, full speed PS1, gameboy, sms, game gear, msx, C64, megadrive, you name it.  They look great in 1:1 pixel form, especially the old famicom games and it's that which actually led me into mass famicom gaming even.

In terms of actual RETAIL games, I like vice city stories, wipeout Pure and Pulse, the recent castlevania and Makaimura revivals, MGS portable Ops and the MGS graphic novel, the two ridge racer games - in fact there are many great games like locoroco and Katamari on psp.  It's quite an underrated system, what with DS getting all the glory.

Katamari :P  It's way harder than the other ones.  I love it :D
I like to glitch old VHS tapes and turn them into visuals for live music events. Check out what I'm working on - www.instagram.com/tylerisneat

Is emulation possible with the new PSP-3000 model?
I hope it's easy to do, because I'm not so good with fiddling with my systems.

Thanks for the info on the Rockman game. I'll get that for sure.

Installing custom firmware on the the PSP Slim isn't any more difficult than the older model, just a different process.

And here's my two cents:

Rockman Rockman [aka Megaman Powered Up] - This is a complete remake of the Famicom Rockman 1 dune in a super cute chibi style. The game is notable for several key features:

-It adds two new robots to the mix bringing the total number of bosses to eight, just like every other Megaman game.
-It has a level editor that's online enabled to allow you to download, share and rate custom stages. The amount of stages you can find is where the game's longevity lies.
-If you can defeat the bosses with using only the Rock Buster and not the weapon they are weak to, you can play the game as that boss and as if that boss is the hero of the game, not Rockman at all!
-In addition to Rockman and the bosses, you can play as Roll, Blues or even Rock before he was turned into Rockman!

Rockman Irregular Hunter X [aka Megaman Maverick Hunter X] - This is a remake of the SNES classic Megaman X. Unlike Rockman Rockman, the graphical style here is similar to the PS2's Megaman X8, just a 3D game on a 2D plane. Features:

-Brand new, anime cutscenes that do a much better job at explaining the story.
-As well as playing as X, there's also a mode where you can play as Vivi [aka Vile]. Vivi plays differently and its an interesting mix.

-There is a exclusive 30 minute OVA called the Day of Sigma that is worth the price of the game alone.

Unfortunetly, both games sold rather poorly worldwide, so it seems any hopes of Megaman 2 and X2 being made for the PSP seem to have gone out the window.

Other games I recommend:

Castlevania the Dracula X Chronicles
Gradius Collection
and since you live in Japan, look for Parodius Portible, a collection of all the Parodius games plus a new remake of the first MSX game. I'd like to pick up a copy of that game myself someday.

Thanks for that round-up.
Sounds great! ;D

If you enjoyed Sega-Rosso's Initial D 3 arcade, then you will love the psp version: Initial D Street Stage! I had a lot of fun with this title. I am a big Initial D fan though, hahaha. :D

I've been somewhat interested in that. Is it an actual 3D racing game or some sort of text adventure game? I played a GBA initial D I think and it was greatly disappointing.

It's an actual 3-D racing game. It has cool cust scenes that take you through the story. It is basically the same as the ps2 release, except it has a card upgrade system. Everytime you win a race, you receive a card that either lets you upgrade your car or see new scenes/ get story related content. I've yet to play the gba version, Is it a text adventure game? I have the psp, ps2 and ps3 versions currently. The ps3 version is really amazing, especially with the logitech wheel. ;D

So far the only good games I've found for the PSP were Jeanne D'arc, Monster Hunter & Patapon.

I couldn't get into Katamari on PS2, so I think it's nothing for me on the PSP either.

Patapon sure looks interesting, but I'd like a demo first to try it out.
