Yeah, ive had irrational hopes of a company developing another cartridge based console... Maybe one day!

People still use Blockbuster and buy music CD's, there are more that download movies/music illegally than legally.

I'm not going to buy an MP3 file when the CD gives FULL quality and then I can rip it to FLAC.

Sonic IV will probably come out on a "best hit" or something if it's a success, which I believe it is, containing all episodes, this was kinda dumb breaking into episodes... :(

Dumb all the way to the bank!  They'll make way more money selling it episodic with the option of a physical release later than they would have selling it all at once.

I would rank:
Sonic 3 & Knuckes (S&K with S3 plugged in)  - because you get extra content added to sonic 3 and extra content added to Sonic and Kunckles.  Sonic & Knuckles is my favourite in terms of design, but Sonic 2 got the gameplay balance right.  Add the combined content and this is set up is the definitive Sonic game to me.  Hyper Sonic and Hyper Knucles are too good.

Sonic 3 and Knuckles were originally meant to be one big game, but due to budget cuts or memory shortage, they had to break it into 2 cartridges. I don't get how people say they don't like sonic 3, then like sonic and knuckles. It's 2 chunks of the same game!
Sorry folks.

UglyJoe @ That's true but for what they ask, I can buy 10 or more games instead of one.

Not worth it at the moment, I want it complete, not episodic. So I'll wait.

Probably because some people compare Sonic 3 to Sonic 2, & then compare Sonic & Knuckles with Sonic 3 - like me. :P

Then there's preferences of the levels themselves. :-\

I found I liked more of the Sonic & Knuckles stages:

-Mushroom Hill Zone
-Flying Battery
-Sandopolis
-Lava Reef
-Hidden Palace
-Sky Sanctuary

Than Sonic 3:

-Hydrocity
-Ice Cap Zone

But why did they have to lose the save feature? :'( Oh yeah, 'cause Sonic 3. :)

Totally for the reasons above as Jedi stated.  Basically levels and the Hyper versions of the characters.

When you combine, you get the best of both worlds and for me that's a better package than Sonic 2 alone, which is arguably more raw and polished than Sonic 3 or S&K stand-alone.

When you play Sonic 3 & Knuckles it's pretty obvious they were meant to be one game, but I was aware of that anyway from the Team Sonic interviews.  It's an interstiong scenario though, it would have been epic to get that on a single cartridge, with all the content from both.

大事なのは、オチに至るまでの積み重ねなのです。

They were planning to put it on a single cartridge, and i think it was called sonic 3 limited edition. And yeah, S3&K domimates all other sonic games. You can tell i like hyper sonic ::)

I wouldn't freak about games not being on physical media anymore. The games that are worth being on physical media tend to get a special edition retail release.

Otherwise, most games nowadays don't seem to have the same sort of character that the older games have... so giving them space and storing them long-term is less important! :D

I, & probably many of you also, find that certain games SHOULD be strictly digital.

Phoenix Wright anyone? I mean who's going to replay any of those?  They're strictly linear (except for the end of #2). :-\

That looks a lot more like Sonic Generations. The Sonic 3D model also looks more cartoony and like the old Sonic. I'd like to see how they handle this, given the success with the past few games.

Dimps being the fantastic developing team of DBZ games (Budokai + Burst Limit) did a very unpleasant job with Sonic 4 Episode 1, the trailer of Episode 2 doesn't look too different in terms of gameplay, but I hope the gameplay's close to Sonic Generations.

SG = Effin awesome!
