I've been really busy lately repairing some laptops. Fixed an Acer netbook with a corrupted BIOS using the emergency flashing procedure and also had to completely disassemble a really nice Toshiba in order to resolder a loose power connector. And I still have one more to go! (a crappy Packard Bell that powers down with the slightest bump).

Finally found my old Simpsons Comics Madness book from 8 year ago!  ;D
So ends another chapter in the glorious legend of the Ninja... Until next time...

On my way back home from some errands I saw a lonely, beat up 14" box fan lying on a curb, waiting for the trash pickup to end its life. Since I don't have a cooling fan in my room and no money to buy one, I picked it up and brought it home.

It was really dirty and when I plugged it in it kinda worked. The blades turned very slowly and it made a horrible squeaking noise. Turns out it was just lack of lubrication. A couple drops of machine oil on the motor bearings brought it back to life!

After some cleaning with soap and water it turned out like this:

Just what I needed to endure the summer, and for free! :D

Granted not many people do, but yes.  My cousin plays Phantasy Star Online quite a bit still.
I like to glitch old VHS tapes and turn them into visuals for live music events. Check out what I'm working on - www.instagram.com/tylerisneat

That's weird.

I just printed out 20 letters and now I've got to mail them!

Wow, Exploding Power Transformers = Serious Business. Look up some videos on YouTube about the subject  ::) :P.

What you've experienced is known as a brownout. Unlike a regular blackout which is the total loss of power, in a brownout there's a substantial voltage drop but not a complete loss, the voltage may be even fluctuating wildly according to the city load.

I've experienced a couple of those myself, where the voltage drops below half the nominal value for an hour or more. Modern appliances with universal switching power supplies (i.e computers and the like) will happily keep chugging along with reduced line voltage (albeit with an increased current load), but bigger, linear loads like electric motors and lights will fail to start up. That explains why you were able to go online even if the lights didn't work. ;)

Me? Finally repaired my Ethernet cabling for good. It had several sections patched up with packing tape! :o
