My PowerPak from RetroZone arrived today!  Just finished loading up my CF card with roms and trying it out.  Recca on my NES, yay!

JC

Got my carts from Taiwan. I was most anticipating my two Doki Doki Panic carts -- and now that I've played both, I can confirm that, yes, they are Doki Doki Panic...not some crappy Super Mario USA hack. Really cool. I've never played the disk version, even though I own it. But the carts have all the Doki Doki Panic characters, no running, the crappy slot machine game with just a plain screen, etc.

Oh, and the unknown boxed game I got is Pao Ching Tien.

Doki Doki Panic carts?!  :o :o :o
Pics please!!!

I'd also love to see pictures of the cart board, I'm curious to see if the pirates used the same approach to port disk games to cart as used with the common SMB2j pirates, but I don't want to push you. If you don't feel comfortable with opening up your Famicom carts, I understand :).

JC

Haha, I was just talking with michaelthegreat about whether or not to open the carts. I don't feel like I should because they're the classic Nintendo-style carts, not cheap plastic pirate carts. But I'm curious to see the boards, too. I have one of the original unhacked SMB2j pirates with the really large board that makes the cart look like a mini NES cartridge -- these carts are nearly that big, but one of them feels much heavier than the other.

I'll post pics here later.

"General Label" an "Whirlwind Manu"

COOL

JC

The General Label was placed over another label; you can see the pink at the top. I've seen other carts with this General Label, but they don't always have Doki Doki on them. And Whirlwind Manu. must be the company responsible for the cart; I've seen that name on a lot of older pirates.

JC

I'll soon be getting some more unlicensed originals and hacks -- maybe most curious is Videomation, some clone of MS Paint. I'll also be getting a Game Genie, but no code book. I need to find a CIB one.

Cool, I have a cart just like that, with the same artwork placement and fonts. Only difference is that the case is blue. And I literally only have the cart.

I bought mine sometime around '94 from a thrift store along with various other cheap carts for obsolete systems, solely because I wanted to see what was in them. Even as a kid I knew about the SMB2/DDP story and I just [/i]had[/i] to take it apart. A year or so later I lost the PCB in a spring cleaning and I'm still kicking myself for it to this day. From what I remember it used classic ROM chips, no lame gloptops; is that one the same way?

JC

Yes, thankfully it's not cheap glob. It's a great game -- too bad you lost it. :o

In a frail attempt to look for an "nes famicom pirate" on eBay, I was inadvertently redirected to "nes famicom" , which brought up many results, where I stumbled upon this:

Oddly, the starting price matched the BIN price, which I zealously accepted.  Good price, is it not?

mgman

Pretty good for a rare game. So, check your PM, I got an inquiry.

Hi all  ;D

I am new around here! Really nice place to be here because I am a real Nintendo retro fan!

I would like to share the Disk System i bought a few weeks ago with you, a new one! It was quite expensive but worth every penny! 180 $ was my price, and as I read here on the forum, that's not too much for a new one :) pfiew, haha

Hope you enjoy it :)

JC

I just got a bunch of new games, but haven't had time to pop any in my Famicom:

Videomation
Pro Wrestling (FDS to cart port)
F15 City War
Samurai Showdown II
Mario Fighter II
8 in 1 -- forget what's on it
Samurai Spirits -- the Rex version
Zanac (FDS to cart port)
Power Rangers 4 in 1
Darkwing Duck with Rockman hacked in
Caltron 6 in 1
The Jungle Book
Balloon Monster
Pyramid
7 in 1 -- all Mario hacks, including Somari and the rare Super Bros. 17
McMario
Yuu Yuu Hakusho
124 in 1 -- Aladdin, Pokemon Silver, King of Fighters '97

And a Game Genie, some Chinese RPGs and a dip-switch cart; I've been curious what the switches do. I'm sure a couple of these will be put up for sale.
