I'm only watching animé to aide in my relearning of Japanese culture & language; therefore I can be better prepared for when the 日本人 take over corporate America; hence I will rise the ladder faster to rule the world.

I don't understand people that don't like anime. But maybe it's in general that I don't understand people that don't appreciate art in any way. World must be boring and dull place for them...

Thanks for calling my life dull...  ::)

i just dont like the art style, and, dare I say, immaturity of it. At least from what ive seen. I was reading somewhere that thats just the culture. Is this true or i making an ass of myself? If so, it would explain a webpage i saw, i believe linked in here. It showed that the japanese box art for kirby games had him all innocent looking and, well, kirby. The american box art had him frowning, and more serious. I dunno, ill just stick to my old cartoon reruns.

What anime concerns, there must be some immaturity involved, it's like the hippies slogan that stated "don't trust anyone over 40", meaning that only young people are open to new things, new ideas, breaking the barriers and such... it's the culture of young people.
And by dull I meant people not appreciating art in any way (not just anime)... just to cheer you up a bit :)

Yeah, i love art just not anime. Not my thing. I do really like art in games thought. Have you seen eduardo the samurai toaster on wiiware? Thats a work of art!

manuel

Something tells me you haven't watched a good anime yet.  ;)

Or, hey, maybe he doesn't like anime?

Come on, that's not possible. Everybody has to like what I like.  ;)

I still suggest to everybody to watch some Ghibli movies like Totoro, Castle of Cagliostro (Lupin), Spirited Away, etc.

Jedi Master Baiter

If you think animé is immature, watch Grave of the Fireflies.

Now there's a classic. I even had to go out and buy the candy tin.

GotF is a little hard on first-timer, I would start with something like Mononoke, Spirited Away, Lupin, Girl who leapt through time or even Animatrix. Or series like Lain, Suzumyia Haruhi,... god! there are so many good titles! It depends what do you prefer in movies- sci-fi, romance, horror, history,...pick one!
(Totoro could be a little childish for a first-timer too...I think it's not a good start)
If you are going to be anime-fan, I think it must hit you like it hit me when I first saw Princess Mononoke.

AND I almost forgot - original language is also the key to become an anime fan. I personally hate english dubbed anime, slovak or czech is also horrid, german was so-so,(haven't seen polish so far), and hungarian is awful. In almost every language, beside original Japanese, every anime seems immature to me.

By the way, has anyone seen Summer Wars so far? Is it good? I have in at home, but no time to watch ;(

No, it tasted good and it looks good on my shelf. A wonderful piece of movie memorabilia.

If you are going to be anime-fan,

Did Petik say he wanted to be an animé fan?

I'm not trying to convert anyone - I just want people to appreciate a style in culture.

I myself am not an animé "fan" outside of Studio Ghibli & the such.

And let's face it - the term animé is rather vague - moreso than our cartoons & animated movies, because in the Western world, they are generally geared toward children, while animé is for all audiences depending on the content.

jpx72

Yeah, you're probably right, sometimes I try to convert people onto something I consider worth. Sorry petik1
