Finally got my copy of Kira Kira Star Night last Thursday and beat the Level 1 difficulty this morning before school. For a short game with a pretty simple concept, it's actually pretty tough. In my opinion, it's worth every cent, if anyone here was considering getting it.

whered you get yours? :v i havent seen the famicom one for sale anywhere

If you're asking where I got a cartridge, I didn't (I think you can only get those at the events he hosts/goes to ). I'm running it on my Famicom via  Powerpak and 72-60 pin adapter (the book +CD package includes the .nes file). I eventually will be making a cart for it. I just need to find a really cheap TKROM game first.

(Speaking of which it'd be cool if somebody could make me a label for it based on the real label)

I have been looking for that cart for awhile...if anyone ever figures out how to get them, please let me know.

Just completed the second scenario. It wasn't easy. In my first attempt I just casually attacked the nearby castles and easily grew pretty big, didn't even look at the other clans on the map. All of a sudden I was bombarded with troops, I took a quick peek at the map and there was only two clans left (equal in size), me and this other guy. No matter how I tried I couldn't advance, he just kept sending troops. So I restarted and rethought my strategy, I only attacked the largest clan and let them fight among themselves. This strategy worked! Slowly but surely I grew bigger and an hour later it was only me and one of the opponents castles left, which I conquered with no problem.

Money wasn't an issue really. You can always reset if you're struck with bad luck at the end of the month. Kind of cheap but it works. As you grow bigger and if you haven't got too many expensive generals (I made do with the initial 3 generals) money really starts to pour in.

Haven't quite figured out the purification rituals that you can have done at the monster castles. I'm guessing you'll have to know the mechanics of it if you're to stand a chance in finishing the third scenario.

Yeah, I think it was the shoguns' salaries that bankrupted me.

Maybe the mechanics there are more complicated than I thought?  I would just fight the monsters, win, and then they'd upgrade my egg monster.

Yeah, there some sort of growth chart. You can potentially get one beast of a monster.
Also if your egg has been reduced to a low level, visiting a monster castle and performing the ritual will supposedly increase its level again. However it never worked for me :( I think I need to investigate further.

Ah, okay.  I can upload some scans from the manual if you think it'll help.

Hope you can make more sense of it than I can.  The page titled "How to make a delicious egg" sounds promising :D

I played a little bit of Magic Cube this evening, which is another of the more impressive Sachen titles. Speaking of Sachen...

@ fcgamer

It's likely that you've played more of their games than I have. Which ones do you most care for?

Most of what I know firsthand is thanks to what was republished in the US by Color Dreams and AVE. And off the top of my head, Pyramid was the only game released here that I didn't find to be awful. And while Rocman X has some issues, it's also unique, ambitious, and pretty good-looking overall.

Hey Jackson, I never thought Twin Eagle (Double Strike) was that bad...I mean, games like that can be a bit generic, but it is really hard to screw it up and make it worse than average imo.

Metal Fighter and Galactic Crusader are not too bad either, and I actually enjoyed Mahjong Trap and Happy Pairs.  Q Boy and Jurassic Boy are okay, and the Super Pang ports and decent as well.  I also thought Hellfighter was a decent game, and the two Pyramid games.  I actually got to try Pyramid 2 today, and I enjoyed it much more than the first one.  And some of the gambling / board game titles I think would be okay too, if you enjoy the original games (I found Chinese Checkers to be a bit quirky, but like playing Chinese Checkers and never have anyone to play it with, so this is an okay alternative).

In all, I find the Sachen games to be average at best and worst.  Sure, I think there are some stinkers, but nothing really too bad.

I checked out that first page and here's my summarise of it. I tried this game out long ago but I didn't knew how to play it properly back then and there are some things here I still don't understand. For example it appears that it's not explained how you can control the what kind of power you "intertwine" to an egg during the rituals. Or maybe I'm just misunderstanding that part.

Egg Monster
In battle push B to make the window appear, pick "たまご" and push A.
The medecine man will appear and the purification ritual can start.
Doing that will make the egg crack with a pishi! and an egg monster will
be born.

Monster in battle
Each monster has 2 types of attacks that you select with the A button.
(The third option is "たまごにもどれっ!" order it to return to the egg.)

Caution: If an egg monster dies, that general won't be able to use egg monsters
anymore until he dies.

You can't tell what monster will appear until the egg hatches.

How to make delicious eggs
Every scenario has 4 types of monsters that can be called forth with purification
rituals. You intertwine them with a power and they'll appear (every monster will
be in a monster castle, please give them a visit). Using a monster even once
(even without loosing any HP) will make the monster's level decrease by 1.
In other words one type of monster power disappears. Thus it's important to learn
how to appropriately intertwine power to the four types of monsters.

What monster types will appear is decided immediately after starting the game. The
game allows for some flexibility in what relationship there are between the purification
rituals and the eggs so please try out various things. If you can always make the strongest
monster appear, it won't matter what enemy will stand in your way.
