Super Mario Bros. 3 game doctor version on the disk system just to check it out.

It's the Japanese version and there isn't a status bar glitch like the cart version. I wonder what mapper they used to make it work? It's a Doctor 6+ game, meaning it has to be loaded with a Turbo Game Doctor 6M or 6+, so it has to be using a supported mapper.
