Games I beat today:

Kage - No death. I mainly used the kusarigama, usually I go with the katana. The kusarigama is pretty effective once it's well-powered up. Powering it up, and keeping it powered up is the challenge.

Dragon Fighter - No death, primarily used the Blue moveset.

Darkwing Duck - Well this one was on NES. I died once.... at Moliarty. Fuck Moliarty.

Samurai Pizza Cats.  Got all the way to stage 10 and ran out of time.  Game is pretty damn good, I didn't want it to end and only meant to get a quick test play through.  Some of the bosses got on my nerves and figuring out all the different character's unique powers without a guide was, let's say, intuitive actually.  A very well designed game, but too slow and easy if anything.  Collision can sometimes be inconsistent, but it feels like an amazing game for kids, just like Hoshi no Kirby.  Dashing animation is nice and the cut scenes are second to none, which makes sense from Tecmo.  The best thing about it though?  The colours.  The game is so vibrant and everything is drawn so well, it's another great latecomer game.  I'm currently playing a trio of this, MetalStorm and Lickle, they'll keep me busy for quite some time and complement each other brilliantly.  I am young enough to remember the cartoon show of SPC, though I don't think it ran for very long over here not was significantly popular.

If I may ask, L___E___T, what do you mean by "too slow" in this sense? I find SPC to be a pretty fast paced game, but I usually dash when I'm not battling an enemy.

The thing is with the dash, that you don't have as much control it seems, but I did use it to cover distance.  In terms of what's slow, pretty much everything seemed to be.  It's no bad thing, but compared to other action games like Ninja Gaiden 3 I kept wishing it would pick up the pace.  It felt a bit like a PAL version, it just needs that extra push I think, but then again it is a kid's game, hence why the difficulty isn't a negative.  Cut scenes were great, but everything's skippable at least.  Maybe I'm used to faster action games, it did feel on the slow side, but that added to its uniqueness.  I found this as enjoyable as the Ape Escape games on PS2, also a little slow, also for kids and also briliiant.

Rolling Thunder - holy shit this game is frustrating! :o

I'd recommend not playing Code Name: Viper first before tackling this on.

I love Highway Star...one of my favorite NES/Famicom games and the best racing game ever!

Can beat Mario on one man, but sadly died on 7-3 this morning.

I know the pain... I hate having a beautiful no-death run ruined by a single mistake. Speaking of which, Batman Dynamite was the last game I played. Can't believe I love it even more than the first Batman game.

Made it to the final stage boss of Rolling Thunder.

Has anyone here legitimately beaten this game? ??? It looks like it goes all out to screw you over:

-one hit kills
-can't control jumps
-precise jumping requirements
-meticulous memorization segments
-no checkpoints on the final stage

I think I have a new nomination for most frustrating game ever.

That's one game I have yet to play, but upon viewing a YouTube video of it, it reminds me of Shinobi. It's probably much harder though.

Bloody good on you. I spent around 50 hours getting to stage 8 on 1 credit (Famicom) hours of frustration, skill, dedication, memorization!) It just chews you up and spits you out! I'm going to revisit it, someday soon for the rematch :) Again, bloody good on you for getting that far.

I love Rolling Thunder.  I think I got it when I was about 12 years old.  Still haven't beaten it :D

Choujin Sentai Jetman! Beat on Very Hard mode, no-deaths. Sometime I should find a different strategy against Destruction Beast Semimaru... I've found that the rope-a-dope is generally the best way to fight him, but perhaps I can beat him quicker by utilizing my special moves differently.
